THRIPPUNITHURA: A case has been registered against the son who abandoned his bedridden father in a rented house in Eroor North Vymeethi.
Leaving KK Shanmukhan (72) alone, his son Ajith, his wife, two children loaded all the household items in a lorry and left the place on Thursday evening. Neighbours fed Shanmukhan on Friday night and changed his urine bag. Neighbours informed the house owner Sunil and the police when his son did not arrive. Ajith told those who contacted him on the phone that he was in Velankanni.
Shanmukhan and his son's family started living here last July. Shanmukhan was shifted to Tripunithura Taluk Hospital in the morning under the leadership of palliative workers. The police registered a case against Ajith based on the statement of Municipal Corporation Vice Chairman KK Pradeep Kumar. Shanmukhan's two daughters and brother also reached the hospital. He was taken to his brother's house in Adimali. Shanmukhan's elder daughter said that she would take him to her house in Thrissur later.
The Human Rights Commission registered a case in the incident. Commission member VK Binakumari suggested that the Tripunithura Police Station House Officer should submit a report within 10 days.
Shanmukhan was bedridden two and a half years ago due to a stroke. After the death of his wife 30 years ago, he came to Ernakulam with his two elder daughters and his younger son Ajith to work as a building contractor. He gave his daughters a good education and got them married. Ajith had not allowed them to visit their father. They used to come to meet their father with the help of the police. It was the daughters who spent 14 lakh rupees to treat Shanmukhan when he suffered the stroke. Ajith is a Tempo Traveler driver. Shanmukhan owns half an acre of land in Adimali.
